Weight Watchers PointsPlus+

Last week Weight Watchers launched it's new PointsPlus+ system. I told you a while back, in a flashback, that change can be very challenging for me. I was nervous to have Weight Watchers change, especially because I have had so much success with the points system. In my mind, I was telling myself that if I did not like this new plan I would just go back to the old points system that I am comfortable with.

However, something changed last Monday night, the night before my weigh in, I began to think about how much I LOVE Weight Watchers. I have trusted them this far and they have not let me down. So, why would I stop trusting them now? I was reminded that it was not just Weight Watchers that made my weight loss journey a success, but the Lord and He never changes!!

Much to my surprise, I have decided to jump head first into the new program! This is it...no turning back.

For starters I have had to shake the old program out of my brain and begin to think and replace it with the new program. This has been very hard. I still call everything points and when I see a food the points pop up in my head. However, I am confident that as I use PointsPlus+ more and more I will be able to make the switch smoothly.

One of the greatest strengths in the new program is that fruit is 0 PointsPlus+!! This is awesome because I eat a lot of fruit. Fruit is filling and was low in points. Now on the PointsPlus+ system Weight Watchers is encouraging members to get in their daily servings of fruits and veggies by making them zero PointsPlus+. It feels like I get to eat more everyday, because fruit has such a low PointsPlus+ value.

I am completely annoyed that I have to recalculate everything to PointsPlus+, but I'm almost positive that it will be worth it. At my house I have everything labeled with the points value, this trick helps me to be successful. Now I have to go through and recalculate everything. It is hard, because some of my go to foods have a higher PointsPlus+ value.

Foods may have a higher PointsPlus+ values, which is okay. On maintanence I was eating 24 points, now I have 35 PointsPlus+ on the new program! It has been a challenge for me to eat all my food in one day.

The PointsPlus+ system is also bringing me back to the basics. I was comfortable with points and I was getting lazy. I would weigh and measure foods sometimes, because I knew what the points would be. I had gotten so comfortable with the old program that I knew how to manipulate it. I knew just how many cookies and treats I could get away with and still be fine. This is not the case on the new plan. I have been measuring everything this week, carefully making sure that I eat the proper portion.

I do not want to try and manipulate this new program. I want to eat healthier foods and continue to live a healthy lifestyle. I think that the new PointsPlus+ system will help me do that.

I cannot say I love the new program yet, but I do not think that matters. I am following the plan. Over the next several weeks I will have a better understanding of the program and how my body is responding to it.

Are you switching to the new PointsPlus+ system? I would love to know what you think about the new program.

I was talking to my husband last night about the new program. I missed (or skipped...whatever) my meeting last week, so the only thing I know about the new program is what I've read on your blog. I told Dave that I'm open minded to the new program but I might just have to stick with what I know and have been doing for the last 10 years. Like you, I don't do well with change. That doesn't sound very open-minded, does it? Well, I'm going to try it out. That's all I can promise.

MrsMarkDave - I think that is a great place to start. Give it a try. I have found, little by little, more flexibility on this new program. I feel like I get to eat more and that I can have more variety. I like that. We will see how it goes. Let me know what you think after you try it for a week or so.

I actually signed back up w/ WW here at work BECAUSE of the new program! I've been on it since last Thursday and I am really liking it so far. I also love that fruit is zero! Right on! My husband has been so supportive and he really enjoyed the 2 pt. oatmeal raisin cookie recipe from the Getting Started Guide!

I'm going to give it a try, but I'm a little worried, to be honest. I've been successful at weight watchers in the past, so I really want to stick with it. I just got so comfortable with the old way. maybe that was my problem.

Kendra - Being too comfortable with the old program was my problem too. But I am really enjoying the new program. I have a hard time eating all my points, because I fill up on fruit.
