China Update: My Food Obstacles Part I

Ever since we began to talk about traveling to China the one thing that I have been concerned about more than anything else is, "Will I be able to maintain my weight loss on our three week trip?". The truth is that I could just let myself go and eat whatever I want for three weeks until we return to the United States. However, I feel that I have worked to hard to suddenly give up.

My desire is to be able to maintain my weight over those three weeks that we are in China and traveling. My solution is to create a game plan. I want to be able to continue to practice my healthy lifestyle habits and the only way that this is going to happen is if I plan ahead.

The first obstacle that I must overcome is Sichuan food which I have already shared with you.

The second obstacle is Christmas dinner and other holiday meals. This is not my first time around the block when it comes to being careful with holiday meals. However, if could potentially be a problem which is why it is on my list.

The third obstacle is culture shock and stress eating. Before Weight Watchers, when I was stressed or uncomfortable I would reach for a snack to make me feel better. I have no plans to go back to this, but I need to be on guard in case it tries to sneak up on me.

The last major food obstacle that I want to share with you are the foods that we will eat traveling to and from China: airline food, airport fast food, and more!

Traveling and leading a healthy lifestyle don't seem to go hand in hand. Even if there are tons of obstacles I am not going to let them get me down!

Now I just have to begin to layout my plan...

I will share my plan with you in part II of this China Update, because I think that principles can be used by anyone who is traveling over the holidays.

I'm looking forward to seeing these! I'm traveling this week too and am super nervous because my dad is the type that get offended if you don't eat on his dime.

Losing Brownies - That is so challenging! It is so hard when there are food pushers in your life. I hope you can come up with a creative way to gently decline.

My daughter has been studying in Beijing for 3 months now - According to her the food is very different and if you are a big bread, baked goods eater you will be unable to gain weight because there are no ovens!!! if you will be eating local foods and doing alot of touring I think you will have little problem - plus make sure you take peptobismal with you - sanitation is not to US standards

Thanks for the tips! It is going to be very different over there. I cannot imagine Christmas without all the wonderful baked goods from the States.

You've got a great blog! And I wonder what the food in China will be like. Hey- ya never know... Your change in diet over there may shock your system and maybe you'll even lose a few lbs!
