Recipe Review: Cake Mix Chip Cookies

My husband and I have been hosting Couple's Bible study in our home for the last several weeks. This week it was my turn to make dinner and dessert. One of my favorite desserts of all time are cookies, so that is what I decided to bake one of my favorite cookie recipes. I love the variety that is offered in this recipe. There are so many different flavors you could choose to make these cookies!

I was introduced to this recipe several years ago. It was in a small cookbook my Mom gave me in college called, "5 Ingredients or Less". It really was the perfect cookbook for me, because I lived in the dorms and did not have a kitchen to bake recipes with lots of ingredients.

For the complete recipe, click the link Cake Mix Chip Cookies.

The Ingredients

I used my Haitian vanilla, because it really does make everything taste better.

Cookie Dough!! I do not even need to bake cookies, because I enjoy eating just the cookie dough. However, this time I knew that I needed to go ahead and bake the entire batch before I made myself sick with cookie dough. I was good and only ate two spoonfuls of dough.

The finished product...COOKIES!! Yummy!! This time I added 1/2 cup butterscotch chips and 1/2 chocolate chips. They were so good. I hope that you try them and let me know what you think.

Hi Jennifer! Thanks for the recipe. I loved seeing your before and after photos. How beautiful! So encouraging. I've been struggling, mostly because we're out of our routine and getting ready to move, so we've been eating out alot and not paying attention to what we eat. How do I find out how many points this cookie recipe is? I love your page. "I can do All things through Christ who strengthens me" TOO! Living in the Blessing,, Mindy

Hey there, thanks! I love to try new recipes. And kudos to your Bible study group. We could all use a little more God in our lives.

TotallytheTurtle - Yes the cookie dough is AMAZING! Be careful to eat just a little.

Jaime - Great! Let me know what you think!

Chaplain Donna - Yes. The cookies were good, but the Bible study was even better!

Thanks, Jennifer, for posting the WW points with the recipe. I am a lifetime member of WW, but sadly, need to get back to disciplining myself with food and excercize. Since cookies are my favorite dessert, too, it helps to know I can use 2 of my points for these.

You're welcome Karen! I am glad that these are another snack that you can enjoy!

Those really look delicious. They are like milk chocolate cookies since they are in a flesh color. When ever I bake chocolate cookies they always turn into brown but yours are perfect. Or the kind of chocolate mix does it so?

Jen Newsham said...

Rose Gold - Thanks this time I used a Butter Pecan Cake mix. Normally I use a yellow cake mix, I prefer it over the chocolate cake mix.

That is a very simple recipe and even kids can do it by their selves. Can I put some toppings or sprinkle on the cookies? My kids love personalized cookies made by them. They truly enjoy doing that thing

Jen Newsham said...

Melanie - I think that making these with kids is a great idea! You could totally add sprinkles or other toppings.

I love adding some toppings too. But I love the almonds on your cookies. Maybe I can add some chocolate syrup on the cookies. That will surely make it more delicious!

Mel - That sounds good!!
